Favorite Places!

Per request, I’ve listed a few of my favorite places  to eat, drink and indulge in amazing vegan fare. I cook nearly every day, but I still loooooove going out for a nice meal or grabbing a treat to take home.  This will be a work-in-progress so check back for restaurant reviews and food pics.

I would love to hear about your favorite places to eat healthy, ‘feel good’ food. Share your thoughts and experiences!

New York City Eats

Angelica’s Kitchen- one of my favorites, great food and atmosphere. 300 E 12th St | Btwn 1st & 2nd Ave

Atlas- small, but cozy place to meet friends for Vegan Treats desserts and soy lattes. 73 2nd Ave | Btwn 4th & 5th St

Atlas Goodies

Babycakes- cupcakes and baked goods galore, specializes in gluten-free goodies. Yum! 248 Broome St | Btwn Orchard & Ludlow St

Bliss- laid back cafe with an eclectic menu. Stop by for a full-on meal or a  muffin and fresh squeezed carrot juice. 191 Bedford Ave | Btwn N 6th & 7th St

Blossom- I wish they would have more vegetable and grain based dishes than meat substitutes but they’re good at what they do. Nice for special occasions. 187 9th Ave | Btwn 21st & 22nd St.

Bonobos- raw cafe with unique nut concoctions and yummy frozen fruit purees. Too bad the seating area is so uninviting.18 E 23rd St | Btwn Bway & Park Ave S

Cafe Blossom- Hit or miss. The combination side plate always hits the spot and their juices are yummy, but I’ve had some really boring salads and just plain bad desserts. Be picky. 466 Columbus Ave | Btwn 82nd & 83rd St

Candle Cafe- great variety and all organic, a little pricey but portions are nice-sized. Thoughtful service and perfect for those with allergies or food sensitivites.  1307 3rd Ave | At 75th St

Candle 79Candle 79- another favorite, perfect for special occasions. Brunch, lunch and dinner are all amazing. You can’t go wrong here. 154 E 79th St | Btwn Lexington & 3rd Ave

Caravan of Dreams- reaaaaally bad service and a mediocre brunch BUT awesome salads and a cute atmosphere. More raw food options than most vegan places. 405 E 6th St | Btwn Ave A & 1st Ave

Counter- great ambience, modern menu. Vegetarian with plenty of vegan and raw options. Nice brunch too.1 05 1st Ave | At 6th St

Curlys- Vegetarian soul food. Get your fill of veggie burgers, sweet potato fries and soy milkshakes here. Good for non-veg people too. 328 E 14th St | Btwn 1st & 2nd Ave

Earthmatters-health food store/cafe/juice bar. Reasonably priced and filling platters of delicious vegetarian/vegan food. Also serves soup, salad, sandwiches and juices. Nice seating area with free wifi. 177 Ludlow St | Btwn Houston & Stanton St.

Gobo-I’ve enjoyed several meals here, but I’d suggest skipping dessert. I always get the chakra rolls or lettuce wraps and the scallion pancakes. Soothing atmosphere too. Two locations:  401 6th Ave | Btwn Waverly Pl & 8th St      1426 3rd Ave | Btwn 80th & 81st St

Green Bean Cafe-nice local place to grab a juice, smoothie or (really tasty) nut milks on the go. They have a surprising selection of vegan and raw desserts. 1413 York Ave| Btwn 75th &76th St

Good Health- a decent neighborhood place, but I wouldn’t go out of my way. Menu is mostly vegetarian with several vegan options. Nice lunch specials and tasty desserts. 1435 1st Ave | Btwn 74th & 75th St

Kalustyans- amazing store/deli-style counter. The tastiest falafel, hummus, lentil soup and curry dishes are available for take-out. Plus, they sell wholesale tea, spice, legume, grain, nut, dried fruit, olives and all sorts of other yummy stuff. I absolutely love this place.123 Lexington Ave. | Btwn 28th & 29th St

Lifethyme- health food store/ salad and hot bar/ desserts galore. More vegan and raw desserts than anywhere else at surprisingly low prices. 410 6th Ave.| Btwn 8th & 9th St

Lula’s Apothecary-awesome selection of nut, soy and coconut based ice creams. Counter people are very patient and accommodating. 516 E. 6th St| Btwn Ave A & Ave B

Raw Lasagna

Organic Grill- large menu and reasonably priced. I love the lentil veggie burger and the pies are nice. The simpler, the better. Stay away from anything out of the ordinary. 123 1st Ave | Btwn 7th St & St Marks Pl

Pure Food and Wine- Incredible. 100% raw and 110% flavor. I’ve been here too many times, considering the hefty price tag, but I am never disappointed. The apps, entrees and desserts are all to die for. Plus, they have a beautiful dining room and an even better garden (seasonal). 54 Irving Pl | Btwn 17th & 18th St Pure Food and Wine Garden

Pure Food and Wine Takeaway- Raw. This teeny place has delicious juices and the ‘add-on salads’ are worth paying $20. Also, pick up raw ice creams by the pint and Dr. Cows nut cheese. 125 E. 17th St | Btwn Irving Pl & 3rd Av.

Peacefood Cafe- nice edition to the UWS. They have some unique desserts that are decently priced, but the food menu is not very exciting and the portions are tiny. I think their still working out the kinks. 460 Amsterdam Ave | At 82nd St

Quintessence- slightly more affordable than Pure, but I’m always left wishing I had spent the extra 20 bucks. This place has nice salads and the Buddha bowl is satisfying. Their fresh cashew cream is addictive. Desserts are decent, but I’ve had better.

Stogo- wide selection of soy and nut-based ice creams with lots of sundae toppings and raw chocolate. The atmosphere is uninviting and chain-like. 159 2nd Ave | entrance at E. 10th St Btwn 2nd & 3rd Ave

Quintessence MexicanSouen- Macrobiotic (think uber-healthy Asian), not for everyone. If you want a simple, cheap, filling meal check out Souen. They focus more on good health than flavor profile. Three Locations: 326 E 6th St | Btwn 1st & 2nd Av    28 E 13th St | Btwn University Place & 5th Av     210 6th Ave | At Prince St

Taim- hole in the wall. Grab some of the best falafel, roasted beets, hummus and Moroccan carrots in NYC. They have unique  smoothie flavors too.  222 Waverly Pl | At 7th Ave

Tiengarden-understated, but yummy. Few people would travel to visit Tiengarden, but if you’re in the neighborhood, it’s worth a visit. I’ve had some great Asian dishes here and I respect their philosophy. 170 Allen St | Btwn Rivington & Stanton St

Trader Joes- I love shopping here because they make choosing organic financially feasible. I’ve always been happy with their fresh produce and their packaged goods are free of preservatives and other artificial ingredients.  Stock up on almond milk and Lara Bars.  Visit their wine store too! Various locations.

Angelicas SoupWestville- great veg options at great prices. They have an awesome selection of vegetable sides, even better than some straight up veg restaurants.  I don’t usually eat at non-veg places, but if you’re going our to eat with an omni, this place will satisfy everyone. Two locations:  210 W 10th St | Btwn Bleecker & W 4th St      173 Avenue A | At 11th St

Whole Earth Bakery- great variety and only the best ingredients- cakes, cookies, brownies, pies, and cheesecake. Swing by for some sweets to go. 130 St. Marks Pl |  1st Av & Avenue A
